Thursley Common

Thursley Common

Ok, this morning I have a few things I could write about. Duff old five pounds notes, and how to identify them, Farnborough Airshow traffic and silly traffic lights, or Thursley Common and the fire that has been burning there since Friday.

I heard on the radio this morning, that Thursley Common was allegedly set alight on Friday, and has been burning all over the weekend. There have been a couple of Firemen hurt and 90% of the heathland destroyed, 400 acres. Link to BBC Link to Daily Mail

I have been there a few times and have taken some nice photos and enjoyed the wildlife and pond. It has a wealth of wildlife: Dartford Warblers, Sand Lizard (threaten), Nightjars, Woodlarks, Bats etc…

This has obviously been devastating to wildlife and if I can get there to take some photos of the devastation, I will try and post them here. I expect it would be quite upsetting and depressing to go there once the fire has stopped.

However, nature has a way of surviving, and with the heathland being burn’t like this I am sure it will not be long before wildlife returns and new plants grow, although the signs of this fire will be there for a long time and many birds and other creatures will have lost their lives.
