Rare Rhino

Rare Rhino

Yesterday I was reading the Times, not my normal read, but I was looking for a friends letter to the editor, when I came across an interesting article.

I wrote a little while ago about a new species of Big Cat on the island of Borneo which was incredible, but now the WWF have for the first time captured some film footage of a rare rhino.  Ok, not as incredible as a new species, but it still amazes me that there are animals as big as this which we haven’t filmed.

When I started to write this blog entry, I thought it was the first time it had ever been seen, but that is not the case.  It has been photographed before, but not filmed.  It was filmed by a hidden camera.  Until now there hadn’t been any confirmed sighting of this rare rhino in Borneo for 20 years, only sightings on Sabah.  It is thought that there is only between 20 to 50 of these rhinos left alive in the dense forests of the Malaysian state of Sabah.
