WWI Memorials & Graves

WWI Memorials & Graves

As we are working on WWI images at the moment, we have been in search of WWI memorials.

I have been searching around to try and locate some interesting ones and found one up in Twickenham, quite close to where I lived many years ago, and virtually next to where my Nan lived.

However, in the mean time I knew there were some local cross style memorials, so the other day, as the weather was nice, I walked down the road to take some photos of it. It was up on a plynth, which I wasn’t aware of, so it wasn’t as easy to get photos of. However, on the way back I walked through the graveyard, which is only a few 100 yards from us and immediately saw a sign saying Commonwealth War Graves. There must have been about 20 or so in there.

I found this one on the edge of the graveyard, facing a hedge, so it was easier to get close up photos of it.

I think the fact it is covered in green marks, adds to the shot. I’m not sure how often they get cleaned, but other than the greenary, they look on good condition.
