Rescue photos with basic editing in Lightroom

Rescue photos with basic editing in Lightroom

How many times when you are out and about with your camera, do you see a scene and think how lovely, so you take a photo, only to be disappointed with the results.

If you look at the photos below you will see that these have suffered with the above scenario.

This is why you should never just delete a photo, because with a few simple adjustments in a photo editor, in this case Lightroom, you can rescue your photos*. I have only made a few simple adjustments to the basics section in the develop module to correct these photos.
This is just using a single RAW file and no HDR processing.

In this first example, the camera has exposed for the sky, and you can see the rocks in the before side are virtually black. The after image gives a more balanced natural look. Using the shadows slider, along with the others in the basics tab, helps retrieve those details.

The second example shows a more balanced foreground but overexposed on the sky. Again, without HDR process, some simple adjustments in the Lightroom basics tab fixes this. Dragging the highlights slider will bring out the details in the sky with some adjusts of just the basics sliders.

This final example, the camera seems to have got it wrong all over the place and more manual intervention should have been used, never the less, using the same techniques as above, this photo has been saved.

This process is just one of the things I teach in my 1-to-1 sessions. I cover importing, cataloging, editing and exporting.

*there are limits to what can be recovered, and less can be recovered with JPEG files over RAWs.

Upcoming Photo Shoots

Upcoming Photo Shoots

Well things are getting busier as January is progressing. I think people are now getting back into the old work routine and the Christmas break is slipping into memory.

So, what have we got coming up. Well, Mother Day is on its way, so we are taking bookings for sessions for Mothers & Kids, or Dads bringing Kids for Mothers Day photos. Ask us about our Mother Day shoots.

We also have some Maternity shoots coming up in the next few weeks as well as some family portraits. We have revised our Portraits Packages for 2015 and you now get even more from your session.

Business portraits are also still being booked, so why not book yours and get a nice new Social Media or Business Portrait done.

After the refurbishment of the studio last year, it is ready for stage 2, which will involve creating a relaxing waiting area for parents to sit while Kids are having their photos taken.

Whoosh It’s 2015!

Whoosh It’s 2015!

Well it’s 2015, doesn’t time just keep flying! Its quite worrying just where the months and years go and before long you’re another year older.

This is why photography is so important. It a way of capturing the now for the future. Capture the special moment to look back on.

If you’ve just had a baby, in 4 shorts weeks it’s a month old, and that time has then gone forever. Capture those moments with photos and memories, and not just on your phone or on the computer, but get photos printed and put onto canvas.

If you get married, those memories are always captured well as part of the wedding process. But after the wedding, if you are having a child, capture those pregnancy moments too and follow it up with newborn photos.

These stages are then followed with family portraits, fun or formal, its up to you, but get them photographed to, not just for you but for when your children grow up and have children of their own. In the past photos only existed on paper or slides, but now with digital file and computers, many of the memories never get seen, let alone put into albums.

We offer many great portrait packages starting at just £50. Visit our portrait page for information on our portrait prices and packages.

Treasure your memories, remember your memories, but get them photographed, get the printed and put them on the wall.
