Farnborough Airshow 08 – The Vulcan!

Farnborough Airshow 08 – The Vulcan!

The last couple of weeks we have been battling with the Farnborough Airshow traffic. Living close to Farnborough means that for 2 weeks every 2 years temporary lights and diversions appear around Farnborough and the surrounding areas. This makes it difficult to get to work, and very difficult if you want to go out on the weekend of the show, unless you are heading in the opposite direction!

The plus side of all of this, is that in the buildup week, we get the aircraft flying across the works multi-storey car park and so it is a great place to stand to see some of the aircraft. In some displays, you get the aircraft flying directly over your head down the centre of the car park, at what feels like just a few metres above you!

This week the Vulcan was flying, so we all wanted to see what path if would take. After its initial take-off and disappear it started its display. Being so high we could see it flying down the runway, then starting to turn, and turn towards us. It continued its turn and banked right above our heads providing a great underside shot, At one point it was actually too close for the lens.

Sadly the week leading up to the show wasn’t ideal weather so in some shots it looked really dull is it was still raining, but, I still get some interesting pictures of it!

Goodwood Festival of Speed

Goodwood Festival of Speed

This is the second time I have been to the festival of speed. So now I knew what to expect, were things an easier? Well it didn’t rain, which was a definite bonus as last year it chucked it down!

I want to try and get some rally photos and a few from the start line. Unfortunately, they are at the opposite ends of the hill, and it is quite a long and steep hill in places! So we didn’t make it to the start line and instead worked our way from the paddock where we saw and photographed, Murray Walker, Sebastian Buemi (I think), a nice photo of Jenson Button & Lewis Hamilton (although a little out of focus!) plus Derek Bell. Leaving the paddock I had Anthony Hamilton walk right past me, just 2 feet, although I only got a photo of the back of his head!

We headed up the hill just in time to see the F1 Cars go past, then on the the rally stages. I got to the same place as before and got a few good images of the cars going through the S bends, but I did get covered in dust! On gettnig home, when I took the backpack of it was smothered! Hate to think what it did to the cameras!

Moving from there in to woods, I got a bit creative remembering a few shoots I took last year.

Later we managed to photograph the F1 Cars again, followed by the superbikes and some varying models of Lola cars.

At 6 we headed home and sat in a slow moving traffic jam for an hour all the way to Midhurst!

Another IOW Adventure

Another IOW Adventure

I managed to find out the my step Sister was visiting the IOW on Tuesday, so my Girlfriend & I decided to take the day off and pop over there to meet them.

As usual we also took the opportunity to grab the cameras and get some more photos!  Despite it raining quite heavily before leaving home, the weather actually held while we were there.

It made for some interesting photos with the dark and moody sky, and I got a few nice images of the hovercraft spraying up the water as it was coming into land. (I’ll post them this evening)

Poppies!

Poppies!

Poppy fields are lovely, but how often do you see them?

Well yesterday my Girlfriend sold one of her poppy photos to someone, and they said to her, ‘have you seen the poppy field just down the road?’ What a surprise, a poppy field about a mile down the road from where she was.
So after work, we went in search of it. It couldn’t be seen from the road, so we walked about half a over a brow a hill through a wheat field, and there it was!

At first it didn’t really look much and the poppies were quite scattered, but it made for some good photos.

About another 200 yards there was another patch of poppies, but the closer we got, the more densely packed they seemed, and this worked out best.

My eye was also catch by the tuffty wheat heads in the left field and the slight scattering of poppies that were growing there.
