Flickr & the World

Hmm, it seems Flickr does some interesting things, or, the world (the internet really) does some interesting things with Flickr.

My last post was talking about a photo being selected from Flickr to appear on a website and today, I found an thing.

I was Yahooing my name, as you do occassionaly, or to be precise, Yahooing, Lee Orchard Photography just to see where it get to on the web, and I sure my name showing on a website as submiting a picture to it.  Well I knew I hadn’t, so wanted to check to see if, a, it was my photo, and b, they hadn’t nicked it!  At least I could see that it had been credited with my name.

The reference was to the Goodwood Revival last year and this was the entry.  http://sportingbid.com/194-racing-september-28-2007-719-am I was please to see that my name was against my photo, and then noticed the photo link pointed to Flickr.  So again it seem there are a lot of sites that use Flickr, but unlike that other site below, they didn’t ask to use it, but atleast I’m credited.

The question is, should they have asked, Yes, and it would have been courtesy I guess as I would have said yes if I was being credited.

Baby Birds

Last weekend, I was out in the garden, enjoying the sun and looking a all the sweeping up I needed to do, when a baby robin popped out from behind the table and just hopped across the decking, before disappearing behind the chairs. Wow I thought, how nice, a shame I didn’t have my camera. I then turned to go back to the house, and beside me in a tree, there was a very young baby blue tit, just on the edge of the tree! Again, damn, no camera, so I quickly ran back to the house.

By the time I’d changed the lens, found a blank card and got back to the garden it had gone.

However, I could hear some chirping very close. I then found this one, on the top of a shrub.

So I took a couple of photos, turned round to move away, and there was the other one, on the edge of the fence. I took a few more photos, then retreated and watch the mother fly in and feed them. I watched all of this for about 20mins, moving back and forth, taking photo and watching them being fed! I one stage, I watched the first bird works its way up to a branch, only to flap if wings and fall off! It was ok though. I heard another chirp from just in front of me and found another chick.

They all looked so young, they can have only fledged that morning.

I had to go out then, and they had worked there way next door. When I got back, they were on the opposite side of my garden, in another bush, all sitting a few inches from each other.

How sweet!

Petworth House

A couple of weeks ago we meet up with some friends as Petworth House. As luck would have it, it turned out to be good weather, although cloudy, so we didnt get rained on during our picnic!

The house was quite interesting, although it did seem to be walls and walls of paintings! The staircase however was very impressive. The walls had all been painted with figures and scenes and also it had been done in a style to make it look like there were elaborate wood carvings and door frames. It main a nice change from just seeing paintings hanging on the walls.

The kitchens were also very interesting, seeing the ingenious methods for doing things that we just take for granted these days. For example, turning the temperate down on the oven. The had a system of hooks and pulleys for moving the still cooking food away from the fire.

Outside they had a craft fair and I had hoped to see some deer, but I think they were further away in the park. So this was one of the few shoots I took.
