Last friday I was lucky enough to get a phone call telling me about a local hot air balloon event with fireworks. So that evening we were in the middle of a field waiting for it to get dark and trying to work out the best way of taking the photos.
There were several problems. The fireworks required long exposures to look good, it was dark, so that required long exposures, but the balloons move, causing blur! Also, when the balloon didnt have there burners on, it meant the cameras couldnt easily focus. It was a challenge.
This was one of the results.

It was really good fun but challenging, so I am looking forward to having another go at another event.

Wow, I’ve been writing in this blog now for 2 years! Ok, not daily and not so much recently, busy! but its still 2 years! It doesn’t seem that long, and there has been a lot of things happen in that time. Some very good, some not so good, some sad and some enjoyable! Some of the things even made it to be blogged about!
So, how to celebrate the 2 years. Well, first, thank you for reading, and if you’ve been reading for 2 years, an even bigger thank you! If you are new to my blog, thank you, and welcome!
Its difficult to gauge just how many people read this. From my stats, the blog gets many many hits a day. Some of these could be readers, others are just blog and search engines. Sadly not many people give feedback. I’ve had a few nice comments, but the guest book is pretty empty.
So, for the real readers out there, here are a couple of photos from Winkworth as promised, in HDR! Many thanks to my Girlfriend for that!

I was really pleased with these and making them HDR has just brought out the colour a bit more!
Heres to another year of blogging!

After the craft fair on Saturday, I decided to treat myself to a new lens that I’d had my eye on for a while.
Its the Sigma 10-20mm wide angle lens. And it is wide!

This is one of the photos I took with it at Leith Hill on Monday

I think I’m going to have some fun with this one!

This time of year the challenge for my Landscape Photographer side is photographing Bluebells.
Last week I went to Winkworth Arboretum, and was lucky enough to get some nice photos of bluebells under acer trees. I’ll post these soon. Generally though, I find they are very difficult thing to photography. Firstly, the colour of them just doesnt show the same in the photo, and also, quite often you take a photo, thinking what a lovely scene, only then to look at it on the PC late and think, oh, that didn’t work. Or, it just doesn’t represent the mass of colour that you saw when you took it.
So, after bagging some good images the other day, when I saw some more at Polesdon Lacey, but not such a mass, I thought it was time to experiment.

I quite liked the effects, although it doesn’t beat a really good hill of bluebells!
